For a critic, old habits die hard -- after seeing Verdi's "Macbeth," one of my favorite operas, I couldn't resist writing up what I thought about it.
Faced with instances of proven sexual assault, the classical music field often reacts with shock, horror -- and hypocrisy. I was angry about the response to one such case, when musicians took public stands rallying around horn player Cara Kizer 14 years after her alleged rape, and I had a few choice things to say to the field at large, which I reprinted on my blog.
