I had a few things to get off my chest about sexual assault in the field of classical music - specifically about the field's response to it.
In 2023, I was drawn into the internal travails of the Cleveland Institute of Music, one of the country's leading conservatories, when I was compelled to turn down their offer of an honorary doctorate due to my perception that the administration was failing to support its students. Since the situation there has yet to be fully resolved. I am continuing to highlight my statement and some of the subsequent actions that have taken place.
Since 2019, I've had the opportunity to have some memorable conversations with intelligent, thoughtful podcasters about everything from the state of classical music and journalism to female composers and systemic racism; from Puccini's aria "Nessun dorma" to inevitably, #MeToo in classical music.
